About me

I’m Pam Cook – film critic, historian, blogger and academic. I’ve been writing and thinking about film since the 1970s and I’m passionate about the subject. I used to be contributor and associate editor on the British Film Institute (BFI) journals Monthly Film Bulletin and Sight and Sound before becoming an academic in 1996. I’m currently Professor Emerita in Film at the University of Southampton.

These are exciting times for cinema, as it extends into fast-evolving and interconnected ways of producing, distributing and exhibiting media events that transform the ways we experience and understand film. These changes offer opportunities as well as problems, and I’ll post my thoughts about some of these developments from time to time.
